Specialist care for your digestive health

Gastroenterology focuses on the digestive system –  including the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon – and closely related organs such as the gallbladder, bile ducts, liver and pancreas.. Whether you’re dealing with heartburn, IBS, or abdominal discomfort, our consultants take the time to listen, investigate and find the cause of your symptoms.

Common gastroenterology conditions we treat

Digestive symptoms are common and often manageable once the cause is identified. Our gastroenterology specialists diagnose and treat a full range of conditions – from minor issues to complex conditions. – with expert, compassionate care.

Acid reflux (GORD)

Heartburn or acid reflux happens when stomach acid travels up into the oesophagus, causing discomfort, burning, or a sour taste – often worse after eating or when lying down.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

A common digestive condition that causes bloating, abdominal pain, cramping and changes in bowel habits. Symptoms often come and go and can be triggered by certain foods or psychological stress.

Coeliac disease

An autoimmune condition where the immune system reacts to gluten, damaging the lining of the small intestine. This can lead to bloating, diarrhoea, fatigue and nutritional deficiencies.

Gallstones

Small, hardened deposits that form in the gallbladder and can block bile flow – causing pain in the upper right of your abdomen, nausea or discomfort after eating fatty foods.

Indigestion (Dyspepsia)

A feeling of pain, fullness or burning in the upper abdomen, often triggered by eating or drinking. It can be occasional or ongoing and may be linked to reflux, ulcers or certain foods.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a collective name for autoimmune conditions called Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. IBD requires ongoing care to help manage flare-ups of symptoms and maintain stability.

My consultation with Dr. Smith was exceptional. He was approachable and easy to talk to about my concerns, listened with genuine empathy, and provided sound advice along with clear explanations of the next steps. I left the consultation feeling reassured and confident about getting back on track.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I cannot recommend Dr. Efe Ejenavi highly enough. I went into my consultation and subsequent gastroscopy carrying a great deal of anxiety. I have a longstanding throat phobia, and after weeks of upper abdominal pain, bloating, early satiety, burping and constant worry about what might be causing my symptoms, I was honestly terrified—not just of the procedure itself, but of what it might reveal. From the very first consultation, Dr. Ejenavi immediately inspired confidence. He listened carefully, never rushed me, took my concerns seriously, and explained everything in a calm, clear and reassuring way. At no point did I feel dismissed or like “just another patient.” He struck the perfect balance between professionalism, honesty and genuine compassion. On the day of my gastroscopy, I was extremely anxious. The nursing staff recognised this, and when Dr. Ejenavi came to see me before the procedure, he took the time to reassure me personally. His calm manner immediately reduced my anxiety. He explained what would happen, answered my questions, and made me feel completely safe in his care. The procedure itself was the exact opposite of what I had feared. Thanks to Dr. Ejenavi and his team, it was smooth, gentle and far easier than I could ever have imagined. Despite years of worrying about anything involving my throat, I experienced no pain and virtually no discomfort—just a little gagging for a few moments. In fact, I was even able to watch the procedure on the monitor while he carefully examined my stomach and took biopsies. It was over in around ten minutes, and afterwards I found myself wondering why I had been so frightened. Most importantly, Dr. Ejenavi gave me something I had been searching for over the previous two weeks: answers. Rather than leaving with more uncertainty, I left with a clear diagnosis of erosive gastritis, a treatment plan, follow-up arrangements and the reassurance that the rest of the examination was normal. After days of fearing much more serious possibilities, that clarity was invaluable. Technical expertise is something patients often expect from a consultant gastroenterologist, but what truly sets Dr. Ejenavi apart is the way he treats people. He combines excellent clinical knowledge with kindness, patience and empathy. He understands that treating a patient isn’t just about performing a procedure—it’s about helping someone through one of the most worrying moments of their life. To anyone who is particularly anxious about having a gastroscopy, especially if you have a strong gag reflex or a fear of throat procedures as I did, I hope this review gives you confidence. I was convinced it would be an awful experience, yet under Dr. Ejenavi’s care it was far easier than I ever imagined. Thank you, Dr. Ejenavi, not only for your expertise but also for your reassurance, compassion and professionalism. I will genuinely remember the care I received for a very long time, and I would recommend you without hesitation to anyone needing a gastroenterologist.
