Dr Vanja Giljaca is a consultant gastroenterologist and advanced interventional endoscopist and UK-accredited Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopist he is the clinical lead for Endoscopy at Heartlands Hospital, in Birmingham.
Dr Giljaca graduated from the University of Rijeka Medical School in Croatia in 2004. He undertook his gastroenterology speciality training in Croatia and was appointed consultant in Heartlands Hospital Birmingham in 2016 where he has been practising since.
He did his doctoral research at the Royal Free Hospital in London and was awarded a PhD in diagnostic methods for biliary stone disease. He is a member of the Quality Improvement Committee of the European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
Dr. Giljaca is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of gastrointestinal problems, including precancerous gastrointestinal conditions, polyps, early malignancies, acid reflux, ulcer disease, liver and biliary system abnormalities, and dyspepsia. In particular, he is well known for his sophisticated and intricate abilities in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Dr. Giljaca's has brought several new procedures to the West Midlands region, notably including Endoscopic Submucosal Resection and Full Thickness Resection for gastrointestinal polyps and early cancers. His dedication to advancing the field is underscored by his numerous scientific publications.
Dr. Giljaca actively contributes to the advancement of gastroenterological education through his involvement in training programs for registrars and fellows, as well as his lectures to medical students in Birmingham.
