Dr Samuel Smith is a UK-trained Consultant Gastroenterologist with full Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation in both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, and is an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopist. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, with a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Dr Smith completed his medical degree (MBChB) and BMedSci (Hons) in Psychological Medicine at the University of Birmingham in 2009, followed by higher specialty training in Gastroenterology across the West Midlands. He was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in 2022.

During his training, Dr Smith completed a PhD at the University of Birmingham titled “Advanced Endoscopic Techniques in the Lower Gastrointestinal Tract”, reflecting his strong interest in endoscopy and IBD management. His research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented internationally, including as a session chair at medical conferences.

Dr Smith has worked across both secondary and tertiary centres, including a 12-month placement at the Liver Transplant Unit, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, one of the UK’s leading centres for hepatology and transplant care.

He is dedicated to delivering personalised, evidence-based care, listening carefully to patients’ concerns, explaining diagnoses clearly, and involving them in every step of their treatment. His goal is to provide high-quality, compassionate care supported by the latest advances in gastroenterology and endoscopic techniques.
