Profile
Dr Efe Ejenavi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist providing private care at The Harborne Hospital (Birmingham) and The Priory Hospital (Birmingham). He specialises in problems affecting the oesophagus, stomach, bowel, pancreas and liver, offering assessment for indigestion, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, bloating and unexplained changes in bowel habit. He also looks after people with chronic diarrhoea, constipation and liver disease.
He helps people with digestive symptoms ranging from heartburn and bloating to weight loss and persistent abdominal pain. He sees patients with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome, working to identify the cause of symptoms and agree a clear treatment plan.
His clinical practice includes gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy and other therapeutic endoscopic procedures. He is experienced in ERCP for pancreatic and bile duct problems and in treating strictures that cause swallowing or bowel difficulties. Care is planned with radiology, surgical and hepatology teams so that investigations and treatment are joined up and evidence based.
Dr Ejenavi completed specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology within the West Midlands Deanery and began his consultant career in 2018 at University Hospitals of North Midlands. He joined University Hospitals Birmingham in 2021 and now practises at Heartlands Hospital. His main interests include interventional endoscopy and hepatobiliary medicine.
He has played an important role in training and service development. He has trained registrars and endoscopy fellows and previously served as Endoscopy Training Lead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he helped run the gastrointestinal bleeding service. He is now Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Clinical Governance Lead at Heartlands Hospital, supporting safe practice and quality improvement.
Dr Ejenavi is involved in research and regularly presents at national and international meetings. He has published in peer reviewed journals and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the British Society of Gastroenterology and a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. His approach is calm and approachable; he explains tests and treatments in clear language and develops personalised plans that support confidence and good outcomes.

Went he was running late- but that is expected with hospitals over all DR.Efenavi was helpful and insightful, shame the cost is high for procedures and no referring to NHS could be done- which is no fault of his, as a doctor he was amazing and worth every penny.

I had a consultation with Dr Efenavi today, he was the kindest and most caring Doctor I'd ever encountered. I am so grateful to Dr Ejenavi and Lauren for the support, assurance, treatment and advice, they exceeded all our expectations. My daughter has crohns but is at home now and best she has been in over a year, this would not be possible without Dr Ejenavi’s care. I wish we had met him sooner as he has been a god sent.
