Profile

Miss Sarah Addison is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, practising privately at The Priory Hospital Birmingham and HCA The Harborne Hospital. She is also an NHS Consultant based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Miss Addison graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1996. She completed her basic surgical training in the West Midlands, later moving to East Anglia for a laboratory research post focused on colonic calcium signalling. She returned to the West Midlands for her registrar training in general and colorectal surgery, which she completed in 2009.

During her training, she was awarded a regional fellowship, allowing her to undertake a travelling fellowship at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, where she studied advances in laparoscopic surgery and peritoneal cancer treatment. After completing her training, Miss Addison began her consultancy career at Walsall Manor Hospital, where she established a joint pelvic floor clinic with a uro-gynaecologist.

In 2018, Miss Addison joined the colorectal department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she developed a specialised interest in pelvic floor and functional bowel disorders. She collaborates closely with uro-gynaecologists at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, delivering a multi-disciplinary service for patients with pelvic floor disorders. Her expertise includes colorectal cancer, benign coloproctology, and pelvic floor conditions such as rectal prolapse, obstructed defaecation, and slow transit constipation.
