After qualifying in 1991 from Aligarh Muslim University, India, Mr Ashraf moved to the UK in 1994 to begin his orthopaedic training in Birmingham. He completed a specialist fellowship in knee surgery at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol and earned a Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Engineering. A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons since 2001, he was appointed as a consultant in 2005.

I was incredibly apprehensive about going to see a new knee surgeon after having had a terrible experiences in the past, however my fears were allayed as soon as I stepped in to his consultation room. He was kind, polite but most importantly informative without being dismissive or condescending. I am so nervous about going under general anaesthetic for my surgery but knowing I am in such good surgical hands and after several pep talks from his lovely secretary Sarah I am looking forward to being back on my feet. I would recommend Mr Ashraf and his team to anyone. Fantastic experience all round. Thank you x x x

My experience with Mr Ashraf has been exemplary. He explained the technical elements of my injury and corrective actions in a way that was very easy for me to understand. I was made to feel at ease throughout. His experience and confidence gave me additional reassurance. Mr Ashraf was my surgeon after being run over, suffering catastrophic knee damage, along with other injuries in 2022. He initially treated me at the Queen Elizabeth hospital where I remained for almost two weeks. I required further surgery on my knee and had no hesitation with Mr Ashraf remaining as my surgeon on a private basis. He then transferred me to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. His approach from start to finish, gave me great confidence that I was in the best hands. After three operations consisting of grafts to virtually all the major ligaments in my knee, I also learnt that it helps to be highly motivated. This has been a tough battle, mentally and physically. It does get better, helped by Mr Ashraf and his teams skill at what they do. There is still a long way to go for me and my knee will never be the same again, however I know that Mr Ashraf has given me the best chance at getting back to a good quality of life. I need to heel physically and mentally, but thank you Mr Ashraf. You and your team restored my hope and made sure that my recovery from injury has been the best it can be. I will remain internally grateful.

Really pleased with how everything went. I was really nervous beforehand but felt at ease by the time I went into theatre. The only feedback I’d have is that, as someone who has a decent understanding of human musculoskeletal anatomy, I’d have preferred a slightly more in depth explanation when talking through the procedure. I felt the explanation was a bit too simplified but I understand the general population may not need to know more than that. Thank you again and, in the nicest possible way, I hope not to come back soon

The whole experience from initial consultation to operation and recovery has been excellent. I have a great outcome in terms of my knee replacement. Dr Ashraf has an excellent support team and a special mention to Sarah Foley for her coordination of appointments and being a lovely person. Support staff at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital were also brilliant, from anaesthetists to Nurses to Physios to ward support.

I've been under the consultation of Mr Ashraf for a few years, in which time he has performed two surgeries on my right knee. Mr Ashraf always demonstrates attentiveness and patience when listening to my concerns and answering my questions. He explains medical concepts in a way that is simple and considerate of my "layman" understanding.

I had been having issues with my right knee to the point that swelling was occurring whenever I would walk and my knee was constantly feeling unstable causing me to not be able to do the usual levels of activity I would. Dr Tanweer has been so brilliant with explaining both procedures I have had with him to me. I’ve been able to feel so much more confident and my knee feels so much stronger since my trochleoplasty and MPFL reconstruction (4 months post) and following a MUA (2 weeks post) I’ve been able to get so much more bend in my knee. I’ve found him to be both professional and polite. I would highly recommend him and I’m so grateful to him for giving me use of my right knee back!

Had knee surgery under Mr Ashraf and it has been so helpful in relieving my symptoms. I’m almost pain free and feel like myself again. I’d had a bad experience with knee surgery in the past. Mr Ashraf put me at ease from my very first consultation and went through all the options available to me. I had a full diary at the time and was in a lot of pain. Mr Ashraf fitted me at my convince and the knee surgery went perfectly well. My recovery was excellent and I’m back doing what I do after just six weeks. And with no pain Thanks Mr Ashraf and your superb team !

He has, throughout, listened to my symptoms, examined and evaluated all considerations and the care and treatment plan has been fast, efficient, timely and excellent.
