Profile

Mr Prashant Patel is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, with more than 30 years of experience in urology, hernia surgery, and urological cancer treatment. He combines clinical expertise with a strong commitment to teaching and research, helping advance modern surgical practice both in the UK and internationally.

Mr Patel graduated in Medicine in 1993 in India, where he also completed specialist training in General Surgery with a focus on pelvic surgery. He moved to the UK in 1999 to pursue further training and, in 2010, undertook a prestigious fellowship in urological cancer surgery at Perth, Australia, gaining advanced skills in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

At Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Mr Patel provides specialist care across the full range of urological conditions. Alongside his clinical practice, he lectures at the University of Birmingham, supervises postgraduate students, and contributes to national training and examinations, including FRCS (Urology) assessments. He is internationally recognised, serving as a panel chair at European Urology meetings and as a member of scientific review committees.

An active researcher with over 100 peer-reviewed publications, Mr Patel leads multiple clinical trials focused on molecular markers, immunotherapy, and informatics in urological cancers. His work continues to influence best practice and innovative treatment strategies in urology.

Outside of medicine, Mr Patel enjoys cycling, meditation, and hiking, and has summited several high-altitude mountains across Europe, Russia, Africa, South America, Nepal, and India.
