Profile
Dr Mark Whitsey is a Consultant Geriatrician specialising in the care of older adults, with particular expertise in frailty, movement disorders and complex medical needs. He is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of older people, especially those living with frailty or experiencing sudden changes in their health.
Dr Whitsey graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2009 and completed his specialist training in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine in the West Midlands in 2019. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Medicine (Specialty Medicine) from the University of Wolverhampton and has undertaken advanced fellowship training in acute and complex elderly care.
He leads an Acute Frailty service focused on early identification and tailored treatment for older patients who become unwell or experience a health crisis. He also runs a dedicated Older Adult Movement Disorder clinic, supporting people living with Parkinson’s disease, Parkinsonism and tremor, providing expert assessment and long-term management.
Dr Whitsey has particular expertise in Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment – a detailed, holistic evaluation that considers medical conditions, memory and mood, mobility, medication management and social support. This thorough approach enables him to create personalised care plans that reflect not just a diagnosis, but the whole person.
He regularly supports patients living with frailty, those at risk of falls, and individuals experiencing acute confusion or delirium. Known for his calm, empathetic and patient-centred approach, Dr Whitsey takes time to ensure patients and their families feel listened to, informed and fully involved in decisions about their care.
Outside of his clinical practice, Dr Whitsey lives with his wife and two school-aged children. Family life keeps him active, whether that’s playing cricket or golf for local clubs, spending time outdoors, or enjoying UK breaks in Scotland, Wales and Yorkshire. He values balance, time with family and staying active – something he encourages his patients to prioritise wherever possible.
