Mr Maninder Kalkat is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon with over three decades of experience in thoracic surgery. He qualified in medicine in 1989 and went on to complete advanced surgical training, earning his FRCS in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2005.

Mr Kalkat is a key member of the regional multidisciplinary teams that manage complex lung cancers and chest wall sarcomas, working closely with oncologists and respiratory specialists to deliver coordinated, high-quality care. He is also actively involved in national and international teaching, contributing to surgical training programmes and sharing expertise with colleagues around the world.

Specialising in general thoracic surgery, Mr Kalkat provides expert treatment for lung cancer, chest wall tumours, emphysema (via lung volume reduction surgery), and conditions such as pneumothorax and hyperhidrosis. He is a recognised leader in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, particularly video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and has introduced several innovative techniques that have improved recovery times and patient outcomes across the region.

His clinical practice is based at the Priory Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, The Harborne Hospital, and Spire Little Aston Hospital. His expertise covers a broad range of thoracic conditions, including airway resection and reconstruction, stenting, laser therapy, chest wall reconstruction, and management of COPD. He also performs thymectomy for myasthenia gravis, reflecting his wide experience across cardiothoracic surgery.
