Miss Lina Antoun is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Women’s Health Specialist in Birmingham. Miss Antoun specialises in endometriosis and long-term pelvic pain, and chairs keyhole surgery training for the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy, both her expertise and years of advanced surgical training. She sees private patients at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, in Birmingham, and welcomes women from across the West Midlands and UK. 

Endometriosis, period pain and pelvic pain 

If painful periods or pelvic pain are getting in the way of daily life, Miss Antoun can help. She treats endometriosis, where tissue similar to the womb lining grows outside the womb. This can cause severe period pain, pain during sex and can affect fertility. In order to provide the most appropriate care, Miss Antoun will ensure you receive necessary tests to identify the cause of your symptoms, this may include scans (like an MRI or Ultrasound) or a diagnostic laparoscopy (a minor surgical procedure, performed under general anaesthesia, to look inside your lower abdomen). To treat endometriosis, Miss Antoun is able to offer keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery; through small cuts around the belly button and lower abdomen, she can find and remove endometrial-like tissue that is growing outside the uterus and causing your symptoms. Miss Antoun will also ensure that all care is centred around the patient, taking in to account any fertility concerns the patient may have and ensuring the best course of care. 

Miss Antoun also treats long-term pelvic pain (chronic pelvic pain). Whilst pelvic pain often has more than one cause, Miss Antoun works closely with pain specialists, scan doctors (radiologists) and other health professionals to ensure they shape a plan around your own goals and the best possible treatment outcome for you. Miss Antoun will explain every option clearly, talking you through the benefits and risks of each one in detail so you can make an informed choice. 

General gynaecology 

Many women see Miss Antoun for general gynaecological problems. As a private gynaecologist in Birmingham, she helps with heavy, painful and irregular periods, fibroids, ovarian cysts and fertility concerns.  

Experience and training 

Miss Antoun qualified in medicine at the University of Aleppo in Syria in 2007. In the UK, she completed advanced keyhole surgery training at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was a research fellow at the University of Birmingham. In 2024, she was re-elected to the council of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy, where she chairs national keyhole surgery training. Miss Antoun is a consultant at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital. She also teaches on keyhole surgery courses run with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Her research looks at new endometriosis treatments prioritising patient quality of life. Miss Antoun has won national and international prizes for her surgical work.
