Profile

Mr Kasun Wanigasooriya is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon providing private care at The Meriden Hospital (Coventry). He specialises in colorectal cancer and minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, offering expert assessment and treatment for bowel cancer, polyps, haemorrhoids and hernias. His approach combines modern surgical techniques with clear communication and patient-centred care.

He manages a wide range of colorectal conditions, including colon and rectal cancer, polyps, haemorrhoids, fissures and other back passage problems. He also treats inguinal and umbilical hernias and supports patients with bowel symptoms such as rectal bleeding, change in bowel habit and abdominal pain. He ensures patients understand their diagnosis and the treatment options available.

His clinical practice includes laparoscopic colorectal surgery, hernia repair and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, including both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. He uses minimally invasive techniques wherever appropriate to support faster recovery and reduced post-operative discomfort. Care is coordinated with specialist nurses, oncologists and radiologists to ensure investigations and treatment plans are evidence based and tailored to each individual.

Mr Wanigasooriya holds an NHS consultant post at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust (North Warwickshire). He graduated in Medicine from the University of Birmingham in 2010 and completed higher surgical training in the West Midlands Deanery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and has broad experience across general and colorectal surgery.

Alongside his clinical work, he completed an MBA at the University of Bradford and was awarded a PhD in Cancer and Genomics from the University of Birmingham. His research focused on how rectal cancers respond to treatment. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and remains actively involved in research and surgical education.

Patients describe Mr Wanigasooriya as calm, thorough and approachable. He takes time to explain diagnoses clearly, discuss treatment options openly and ensure each person feels informed and confident in their care, with a focus on excellent outcomes and long-term wellbeing.
