Mr Kai Leong is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire.
He was awarded honours in Bachelor of Medical Sciences from University of Nottingham in 2001 and subsequently received his medical degree, BMBS, from Nottingham Medical School in 2003.
In his early career, Mr Leong undertook his training in Nottingham, Hull, Wolverhampton and Stoke before entering his higher surgical training in the West Midlands; rotating to Russell’s Hall Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Worcester Royal Infirmary, University of North Staffordshire and University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire.
Mr Leong's research on transanal surgery for large rectal polyps and early rectal cancer earned him a Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist Fellowship and a PhD from the University of Birmingham.
As a consultant surgeon, Mr. Leong specialises in minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic procedures, for both benign and malignant colorectal diseases. He serves as the Lead for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) in general surgery at UHCW and plays a pivotal role in overseeing the training and professional development of surgical trainees at the hospital.
Mr Leong is also the co-editor of the latest ACPGBI Colorectal Cancer Management Guidelines and the Associate Scientific Programme Director for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.
