Mr. Jonathan Richardson qualified in 2005 from the University of Birmingham Medical School with honours in surgery. In 2017 Jonathan was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and a member of the British Hernia Society.
Mr Richardson has an extensive experience in the management of simple and complex hernias including surgery for inguinal hernia, femoral hernia, abdominal wall hernia, and incisional hernia. He is a fully trained laparoscopic surgeon and offers laparoscopic (minimally invasive) hernia repair where appropriate.
As a core member of the Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team, Mr Richardson enhances patient care through initiatives such as the Clinical Lead for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). In his academic research he has made significant contributions in areas such as systemic neutrophil function in colorectal cancer patients.
Mr. Richardson has held numerous teaching positions at the University of Birmingham, where he serves as the Lead Undergraduate Surgical Tutor and a Senior Clinical Examiner. Additionally, he is actively involved in mentoring and supervising doctors at various stages of their medical careers.
In his clinical practice, Mr. Richardson offers comprehensive consultations for a wide range of bowel and general surgical symptoms. From rectal bleeding to hernia surgery, he provides thorough diagnostic and therapeutic services, including lower GI endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery.
Outside of his professional commitments, Mr. Richardson lprioritises staying active through activities such as walking, running and coaching junior football.
