Profile
Mr Hosam Serag is a Consultant Urological Surgeon providing private care at The Priory Hospital (Birmingham) and The Harborne Hospital (Birmingham). He specialises in urological cancer surgery and minimally invasive techniques, offering assessment and treatment for kidney, bladder and prostate cancer as well as general urology problems. He also supports people with urinary symptoms, prostate enlargement and benign scrotal conditions, providing clear information at every stage of care.
He manages kidney tumours, bladder and prostate cancer, benign prostate enlargement, urinary infections, blood in the urine and testicular problems. He also treats foreskin conditions and offers procedures for male contraception. His clinics focus on clear explanations, careful investigation and practical treatment plans that fit each person’s lifestyle.
His clinical practice includes circumcision, flexible cystoscopy, vasectomy, hydrocele surgery and transurethral resection of the prostate. He also performs open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery for kidney and retroperitoneal cancers, including partial nephrectomy. Care is planned with radiologists, oncologists, anaesthetists and nurses so that investigations and treatment are joined up and evidence based.
Mr Serag completed his medical degree and a Master’s degree in Urology at Ain Shams University in Cairo before joining the UK national urology training programme. He gained further experience in Cambridge, Bristol and South Wales, achieving MRCS, FRCS Urology and FEBU qualifications. After completing specialist training in 2018 he undertook a uro-oncology fellowship at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital in Canada. He is now a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
He is involved in teaching, research and service development. His academic work includes publications on renal cancer and minimally invasive surgery and contributions to national clinical guidance, and he presents at national meetings. His interests include robotic renal surgery, complex kidney cancer and urethral stricture disease.
