Profile

Dr Beshar Allos is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in Birmingham. He is specialist in women’s cancers, bowel cancer and anal cancer, and holds qualifications from both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Radiologists, reflecting his extensive training in general medicine and cancer care. Dr Allos sees private patients at The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham where he welcomes patients from across the West Midlands and surrounding counties.

Women’s cancers, bowel cancer and anal cancer

If you have been diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer, Dr Allos can guide you through your treatment options and care. He treats cancer of the womb (endometrial cancer), the ovaries (ovarian cancer) and the cervix (cervical cancer). He also treats rarer gynaecollgical cancers such as cancer of the vagina and vulva (the outer genitals). Dr Allos is able to treat these cancers with a wide range of treatment options. As a Clinical Oncologist, Dr Allos is able to offer patients radiotherapy, which uses carefully aimed high-energy X-rays to destroy cancer cells, alongside immunotherapy (using your own immune system to target, and kill, the cancer cells), chemotherapy (strong, specialised drugs that kill, or stop the cancer from growing) and for some womb cancers, Dr Allos can provide hormone therapy, which uses medicines to treatment that cuts off the "fuel" (natural hormones) that certain cancer cells use to grow and spread.

Dr Allos also treats both bowel cancer and anal cancer. Bowel cancer can affect the large bowel or its last section, the rectum (often referred together as colorectal cancer). Anal cancer starts in the anus, the opening at the end of the bowel. A cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, and it is natural to have many questions. For anal cancer and some bowel cancers, treatment may combine radiotherapy and chemotherapy (chemoradiotherapy). Dr Allos will explain every option carefully, talking you through the benefits, risks and possible side effects of each, so you can make an informed choice.

Private cancer treatment in Birmingham

Many patients are unsure what a Clinical Oncologist does, or how private cancer care works. As a private Clinical Oncologist, Dr Allos treats cancer without surgery, using radiotherapy and medicines instead. He offers precise radiotherapy methods, such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), to target the cancer while reducing the dose to nearby healthy tissue. To see him privately, you will usually need a referral letter from your GP or another consultant asking him to see you (this can be from a consultant you have seen both in the NHS and privately).

Experience and training

Dr Allos qualified in medicine at the University of Birmingham in 2009. He completed his specialist training in clinical oncology and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, the professional body for Clinical Oncologists and Radiologists. Dr Allos is part of several specialist cancer teams, where experts plan each patient’s care together. He also helps train junior oncologists as a college tutor.

Dr Allos speaks English and sees both self-pay and insured patients.
