Profile
Mr Ankur Mukherjee is a Consultant Urological Surgeon providing private care at Spire South Bank Hospital (Worcester). He specialises in urological cancers and offers expert assessment and treatment for prostate and bladder cancer, as well as a wide range of general urological conditions. His practice includes robotic surgery and advanced techniques designed to support recovery and long-term functional outcomes.
He assesses and manages patients with symptoms affecting the urinary tract and male reproductive system. These include urinary tract infections, kidney stones, blood in the urine or semen, testicular lumps or pain, incontinence and erectile dysfunction. He also provides specialist care for people with prostate or bladder cancer, ensuring patients receive clear explanations and a thorough understanding of their diagnosis and treatment options.
His clinical practice includes robotic prostate surgery and other minimally invasive procedures for prostate and bladder cancer. He performs the Complete Urethral Preservation technique during robotic prostatectomy, designed to help preserve urinary function after surgery. He also carries out diagnostic investigations and treatment for a broad range of general urological conditions using established surgical and endoscopic techniques. Care is planned with radiology, anaesthesia and specialist nurses so that investigations and treatment remain coordinated and evidence based.
Mr Mukherjee qualified in medicine from the University of Dundee in Scotland, where he completed both his medical degree and an intercalated degree. He undertook surgical and urological training on the North East England Urology Rotation and was awarded the Shear’s Northern Research Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for his research into prostate cancer at Newcastle University. He later completed a robotic fellowship at University College London Hospitals, training under Professor Greg Shaw in advanced robotic prostate surgery. He also works within the NHS at Worcestershire Royal Hospital (Worcester).
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Mukherjee is involved in research, education and national guideline development in urology. He is co-editing a forthcoming textbook on Landmark Trials and Key Papers in Urology for FRCS (Urol) and postgraduate examinations. He also contributes to international guidance as an associate guideline panel member for the European Association of Urology MIBC guidelines, serves on the BAUS Audit Steering Group and hosts the BAUS-associated urology podcast Rendezvous.
Mr Mukherjee is known for his compassionate and patient-centred approach. He takes time to listen carefully, explain conditions clearly and ensure patients feel informed and involved in decisions about their treatment. By adapting his communication style to each individual, he aims to create a supportive and reassuring environment throughout the patient journey.
