Profile

Mr Andrew Pearson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon providing private care at The Priory Hospital (Birmingham) and The Droitwich Spa Hospital (Droitwich). He specialises in hip surgery, offering expert assessment and treatment for arthritis, complex hip problems and pain that limits daily activity. His practice focuses solely on hip conditions, and he receives referrals from across the UK and overseas.

He manages the full range of hip disorders, including early and advanced arthritis, sports-related hip problems and complications after previous hip surgery. He also cares for people with rare conditions affecting the hip joint who may need more detailed investigation and planning. By understanding each person’s symptoms, lifestyle and goals, he works with them to choose the best treatment.

His clinical practice includes primary and revision hip replacement, complex hip arthroplasty and image-guided hip injections for diagnosis and pain relief. He uses established surgical techniques and carefully selected implants to support reliable outcomes and smooth recovery, offering minimally invasive approaches where appropriate to help people return to everyday activities sooner. Care is planned with physiotherapists and specialist teams so that treatment is well coordinated.

Mr Pearson graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1995 with distinction. He completed orthopaedic training in the West Midlands before further specialist training in Oxford, gaining experience in complex and revision hip surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in 2004, a national centre for specialist orthopaedic care.

He has held leadership and teaching roles, including serving as Medical Director at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital from 2013 to 2019. In this role he led work on patient safety and service improvement in hip surgery. He teaches trainee surgeons, contributes to service development and supports ongoing quality improvement.

Mr Pearson’s approach is calm, clear and patient centred. He takes time to explain test results, discuss treatment choices and understand what each person hopes to achieve. His high-volume hip practice is recognised for strong outcomes and low complication rates, and he provides focused specialist care with clear guidance throughout.

Andrew was excellent from the first consultation, right through to being discharged. He was very thorough and after my operation I was pain free, and only had a few days taking painkillers. After 4 weeks I have been walking several miles with my dog, and it has made me feel 10 years younger.

Mr Pearson is an exceptional hip surgeon with whom I was very fortunate to have been a patient with for my hip revision surgery. I found Mr Pearson to be very considerate and professional at every stage of my treatment. He provided clear explanations and advice from my first appointment right through to surgery. In addition Mr Pearson gave me superb after care and support. Mr Pearson has a very caring, considerate and reassuring manner which helped me immensely during a very worrying and difficult procedure. I found Mr Pearson to be friendly, approachable, calming, humorous and, above all, giving me great confidence in his treatment. He was present at all stages of the procedure and the after care was very attentive. His secretary deserves mention as she kept in touch throughout my recovery.

I had a full right hand side hip replacement that was diagnosed by Mr Pearson following an X Ray. Mr Pearson went to great length to explain the root cause of the problem, the resolution and the treatment and recovery required to maximise the benefit of the replacement. Mr Pearson was very reassuring and has a method in communicating what is a very technical subject into very understandable and comprehensive language for the layperson. On arranging the surgery date I was contacted at each stage of the process and updated regularly by Mr Pearson’s secretary and post operation I contacted Mr Pearson’s secretary with various questions and she and Mr Pearson always responded quickly which is very reassuring and puts any concerns to rest. My surgery went extremely well I followed the guidance closely and was signed off by Mr Pearson on the 6th week post op and by the physiotherapist the following week.

Extremely happy with the pre op discussions and explanations and after op care, but more importantly, the execution of the operation itself!
