Consultant profile

Mr Amit Patel was appointed as a Consultant Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgeon to the Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust in 2014 following training in Coloproctology/Surgical Oncology and General Surgery in London.

Mr Patel qualified from St George's Hospital Medical School, London with honours and undergraduate prizes. Post graduate surgical training in London followed including two years in post-graduate research at the University College London, department of surgery, culminating in a masters degree.

Amit's training culminated in a laparoscopic colorectal fellowship at the world renowned St Mark’s Hospital for colorectal disease in London, under the tutelage of Professor Robin Kennedy. During his first year and a half at St Mark’s, he received extensive training in complex colorectal pathology tertiary referrals from across the UK. Since joining as a consultant at the Worcestershire Acute Trust, he has introduced day case laparoscopic surgery at the Redditch site, and initiated newer techniques in coloproctology surgery – in particular Trans-anal Haemorrhoidal De-arterialisation (THD). Furthermore, he has introduced a pelvic floor service to the region including laparoscopic prolapse surgery and the management of faecal incontinence and obstructive defecatory disorders.

Mr Patel continues to pursue his academic and research interests, and is extensively published in peer-reviewed journals.
