Profile
Mr Aakash Amlani is a consultant ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon and paediatric ENT specialist in Birmingham and Solihull. He treats children and adults, with extra training in children's ENT and nose and sinus problems. He sees private patients at MUMS in Solihull and HCA The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham, and welcomes families from across the West Midlands.
Children's ENT and tongue-tie
If your child snores or has a blocked nose, Mr Amlani can help find the cause. He sees children with snoring and sleep apnoea, where breathing pauses during sleep. He also treats hearing loss and a nose blocked by allergies. For babies aged 2 to 12 weeks, he offers tongue-tie checks and, where suitable, same-day treatment. Tongue-tie is when tight tissue under the tongue limits movement and can make feeding harder. The quick release is called a frenulotomy, and you can usually feed straight afterwards. He takes a whole-child approach and explains every option, including the benefits and risks.
Adult nose, sinus and ear care
Many adults see Mr Amlani for nose problems. He treats a constant blocked nose, allergy symptoms and nasal polyps (swellings in the nose). He helps with sinus infections and chronic sinusitis, where the sinuses stay inflamed for months. Mucus dripping down the back of the throat (post-nasal drip) can be checked too. He also looks into hearing loss, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), dizziness and neck lumps. For a closer look, he can use a thin camera inside the nose (nasal endoscopy). Nasal cautery, which seals small blood vessels, can help stop repeated nosebleeds.
Experience and training
Mr Amlani studied medicine at Cambridge and Oxford, then trained in ENT surgery in the West Midlands. Once fully trained, he spent extra time training in children's ENT at Birmingham Children's Hospital. He is the ENT lead for a network of children's services across the West Midlands. He plays a national role in training future ENT surgeons and contributes to research.
