Profile

Mr Jakub Kozdryk is an accomplished Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a specific interest in the management of hip and knee osteoarthritis. He performs both primary and complex primary hip and knee replacements. In addition to primary joint arthroplasty, he has comprehensive expertise in revision hip and knee arthroplasty. Mr Kozdryk has a special interest in tackling complex and challenging cases involving periprosthetic joint infection, massive bone loss, and periprosthetic fractures.

He works as an NHS Consultant at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, which is both a busy Major Trauma Centre and Major Hip and Knee Revision Centre.

After earning his medical degree in 2006 from one of Poland’s top-tier Medical Universities in Gdańsk, Mr Kozdryk pursued an eight-year run-through programme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in Birmingham. This prestigious higher surgical training programme honed his skills and prepared him for the rigorous final speciality exams.

Upon passing the FRCS T&O exam, he was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2018. This achievement also led to his recognition as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, marking a significant milestone in his career.

To further enhance his expertise, he dedicated six months to a post-CCT fellowship in hip arthroplasty at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.

Following his post-CCT fellowship, Mr Kozdryk pursued a Trauma Fellowship at the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW), a busy Major Trauma Centre. Subsequently, he embarked on a hip and knee revision arthroplasty fellowship at UHCW, learning from high-volume lower limb arthroplasty surgeons, with a focus on complex lower limb revision arthroplasty and the treatment of periprosthetic joint infection.

Mr Kozdryk is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for Core Surgical Trainees and Higher Trauma and Orthopaedic Trainees, playing a vital role in educating and training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons, ensuring the continuity of exceptional patient care and surgical expertise.

He is a core member of the Bone Infection Group Coventry and Warwickshire and the Regional Complex Hip and Knee Arthroplasty MDT, where challenging cases are discussed alongside other specialists.

Additionally, Mr Kozdryk is one of the co-founders and an executive member of BAJIS (Bone and Joint Infection Society, UK). He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Mr Kozdryk’s expertise extends to innovative technologies in lower limb arthroplasty. He is a certified MAKO Robot user, regularly performing robotic-assisted total hip replacements at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. He also has extensive experience with OPS (Optimised Positioning System) technology, enabling more accurate positioning of hip components, with consideration of spino-pelvic biomechanics.

Mr Kozdryk’s patient-centred approach is driven by his profound understanding of the importance of restoring mobility and providing pain relief to patients with hip and knee problems. Recognising that each patient’s journey is unique, he places great emphasis on tailoring treatment plans to address individual needs, ensuring that his patients receive the best possible care.

Away from the operating theatre, Mr Kozdryk enjoys a fulfilling family life in Solihull. He loves spending time with his wife, two children, and their adorable Boston Terrier, Baltic. As a jazz enthusiast, he often unwinds by playing the piano. These elements of his personal life highlight his approachable and compassionate nature.
